MacBook Charging Port Repair — Central Valley, CA

A MacBook that won't charge is a MacBook you can't rely on. Charging port failures are among the most common issues we see across all MacBook generations — from corroded MagSafe connectors on older models to USB-C/MagSafe 3 port damage on Apple Silicon machines. Valley Tech Fix diagnoses and repairs charging port issues on every MacBook model, often completing the repair the same day.

Before replacing a port, we always rule out cable and adapter issues (we can test with our in-shop chargers) as well as software or battery management problems. Port repairs are recommended only when they're genuinely needed.

Signs You Have a Charging Port Problem

MagSafe / Charging Cable Won't Stay Connected

If the MagSafe connector feels loose, falls out easily, or the LED indicator doesn't light up consistently, the port may have physical damage or internal debris.

No Charging LED / No Charge Detection

When a known-good charger shows no response — no LED, no battery icon change, no "Source Connected" in System Information — the charging controller or port hardware has likely failed.

Intermittent Charging

The Mac charges sometimes but not consistently, or the charge percentage fluctuates. This often indicates a dirty or damaged port, a failing charging IC, or a frayed cable (which we can rule out quickly).

USB-C Port Not Accepting Devices

On MacBook models that use USB-C for everything, a damaged port affects both charging and data/display connectivity. Physical debris, bent pins, or board-level damage can all cause this.

Visible Physical Damage

Bent, broken, or corroded pins inside the port, visible burn marks, or physical deformation of the port housing all indicate repair is needed.

"Not Charging" in macOS

The battery status menu shows "Not Charging" or "Battery Not Charging" despite being plugged in with a working cable.

Charging Port Repair Process

1. Charging System Diagnosis

We test with multiple chargers, inspect the port physically, and run system diagnostics to determine whether the issue is the port, the cable, the charging IC on the logic board, or a battery management problem.

2. Port Cleaning (If Applicable)

Lint, debris, and minor corrosion inside USB-C ports can often be resolved with careful professional cleaning — no parts needed.

3. Port Replacement

For physically damaged or failed ports, we replace the port assembly. On older MagSafe models this is typically a cable replacement. On USB-C/MagSafe 3 models, it involves soldering the port to the logic board or replacing the board-mounted port assembly.

4. Logic Board Charging Circuit Repair

If the fault is traced to the charging controller IC or associated components on the logic board (rather than the physical port), we perform micro-soldering component replacement.

5. Full Charge Cycle Test

After repair, we run a complete charge cycle — connecting charger, verifying charge current draw, confirming the battery charges to 100% — before returning your MacBook.

Charging Port Types We Repair

MagSafe 1 (2006–2012 models) L-shaped and T-shaped connectors. Still common on older machines in active use.

MagSafe 2 (2012–2019) Thinner magnetic connector on MacBook Air (pre-2018) and MacBook Pro (pre-Retina USB-C models).

USB-C Only (2016–2020 Intel) MacBook, MacBook Air A1932/A2179, and MacBook Pro A1989/A2159/A1990/A2141 all charge via USB-C only. Port damage is board-level and requires micro-soldering.

MagSafe 3 + USB-C (2021–present) All Apple Silicon MacBook Pro and Air models (M1 through M5) include MagSafe 3 for charging alongside USB-C/Thunderbolt ports. Both are repairable.

MacBook Neo The Neo uses the latest port configuration, which our technicians are trained to service.
